ONE OF A KIND SHOW & SALE

December 6-9

Merchandise Mart

Chicago, IL.

I had the great fortune of growing up in rural Missouri, with plenty of opportunity to indulge in my love of rock collecting.  My life took a more practical path of business and accounting.  For many years, my home and gardens provided me with a creative outlet.

On an outing to a craft fair, I purchased a stone oil lamp.  It was a simple thing, just an ordinary rock with a hole drilled through it.  I became obsessed with the idea, knowing that I could do it better.  That was three years ago, I believe now that I have taken this craft to a new level of artistry that even surprises me.

My work is inspired by simple, ordinary life.  Beginning with natural stone slabs or large tiles, I attempt to create functional works of art.  Pieces that are a pleasure to touch as well as to behold.  Most of my work is free form.  I begin with hand tools: hammers, chisels and files.  By using a variety of grinding tools and techniques, I attempt to bring forth a 3-D effect.  I do this by highlighting the natural layers, colorations and veins of the stone.  I hand polish each piece to a satiny finish.

My lazy susans, trivets, bowls, frames, mirrors and other works provide a connection to the natural world often lacking in our daily lives.  Each of these one-of-a-kind pieces, bring the wonder and beauty of nature into the home.

Picture Frames

Natural stone frames look great with any decor. I router a delicate scallop around the edge of the frames. Polished by hand with wet sandpaper, for a smooth to the touch and natural to the eye finish. Some of the frames are finished with a glossy sealant and others with a matte penetrating sealant. High quality easel backings are permanently attached, with a special double sided 3-M tape. The frames will stand or hang, horizontally or vertically.

Lazy Susans

The novel revolving serving trays are perfect for the modern artistic home.  Traditionally used to pass food around the table, they are perfect for an oversized table, on the vanity, next to the bath tub or under a potted plant.  The smaller ones can be chilled to serve fruit and cheese.  I only use the best steel lazy susan ball bearings available.  Each piece has several coats of penetrating sealers for stain protection.  Suitable for indoor or outdoor use.

Ikebana Pots

(Japanese for Flower Arranging)

A beautiful addition to any table, especially one with a Creative Stone lazy susan.  Make a bold statement with a single stem.  Each pot has a kenzan (pin frog) attached to the bottom, to hold your stems upright.  Your gardening customers will love them.

Your Price:  $ 45.00

Oil Lamps

My oil lamps are unique from others you may have seen. I grind a 1/4 to 1/2 inch deep impression on the underside of the stone. This allows me to use larger oil containers, while keeping the adhesive from view. I use a high quality wick holder of brass, nickel or very thick glass. The wick and wick holder are removed to fill the lamp with oil. Because every lamp is one of a kind, I have suggested prices based on the prices I charge at retail art shows and consignment galleries.

Wall Sconces

I love the warm glow of  lamplight on the wall.  The sonces are beautiful outdoors (but try not to leave them in the rain). They are also beautiful as vases or ivy rooters. I have made many versions of the wall sconce. With or without mirrors, and using 3-5 of the hand blown glass containers. Each one is one-of-a-kind. Prices start at $75.00 - $200.00.

I'll send photos and diemesions prior to purchase.

Mirrors

Mirrors are great accent pieces. Like the sconces, they come in all shapes, sizes and price ranges. Please call to see what I have in my studio. I am always happy to send pictures or create a special order.

Trivets

Webster's Dictionary defines Trivet as 1. a three legged stand to hold pots near a fire. 2. a short legged metal plate for holding hot dishes on a table. right as a trivet, firm, stable and in good order. I would like to add a third definition of my own. 3. Organizer. Put one of these babies on your vanity and suddenly all those jars and bottles look appealing. Set one next to your stove, making your oils and spices a work of art. Place on a coffee table and the remote gets replaced there as if it were magic. Use them for plant stands, candle plates and YES you can set hot dishes on them. You can also chill them and wow your guests with an elegant vegetable or cheese tray. Customers who have purchased this item, send me Thank You's and letters of praise.

Please call or write for pictures, sizes, pricing or to place a special order.

Soap Dishes

Soap dishes, are small free form trivets with an indentation ground out to hold soap.  I use an oil based penetrating sealant,  that makes clean up a quick rinse with warm water.  The inspiration came to me in a hotel shower.  The bar of soap would annoyingly slip off the little shelf over and over again.  Something had broken off while unpacking and I put a little piece of slate in the shower, to hold the soap.  It worked like a charm.  Some people buy them to use as  candle plates or  as a coaster for their coffee mug.

Fruit Bowls

I like to keep a bowl of fresh fruit on my kitchen counter.  It helps to keep my hands out of the cookie jar.  I often end up raiding my own home, when I run low on inventory.  Every time I make one of these for myself, I end up taking it to a show and selling it.  As you may imagine, creating a bowl from a rock is a very labor intensive project.  I may need a little more lead time, if you are interested in a bowl or two.

Your Price:  $ 150.00

LIMITED EDITION!

Place Mats

This beautiful Indian sandstone is perfect for place mats.  I have used them on my own table for over two years.  Some are heavily patterned with natural dendrites with palettes of yellow, gold and orange.  Naturally thirsty, they have been treated with up to 10 coats of high quality stone sealant to protect from stains.  The sturdy sandstone stands up to daily use, without scratch or blemish.  I keep mine clean and sanitary, using hot water with a splash of bleach.  They are not for everyone because of the expense, but a great long term investment.  They will last forever and never need to be washed or ironed.

Your Price:  $ 65.00 each

Damage:

It can happen. Let me know right away so I can contact my shipper for a pick-up. Dealing with insurance is a nightmare, but that is not your problem. As soon as I receive the damaged item, I will send a replacement of equal or greater value or a refund if you prefer. My work is guaranteed. Period.

Terms:

COD (More Expensive) or you may prepay with check or credit card.

Care:

There isn't much I haven't put these pieces through. I have removed everything from red wine to melted candle wax.  By using hot water and a mild cleaner, such as Murphy's Wood Oil Soap. Although your piece is well protected from spills and stains, scratches can occur. Some stone is more susceptible to scratches than others. I have trivets and lazysusans all over my home... using them as plant caddies, TV swivels and organizers in the bath or kitchen. They can take normal wear and tear, but please do not try to use them as cutting boards or use a Brillo pad on them. A soft damp cloth is usually all you need.
